Staphylococcus epidermidis colony morphology

Appearance of S.epidermidis colonies on tryptic soy agar

coagulase negative s.epidermidis colonies, colony morphology

S. epidermidis forms white, raised, cohesive colonies approximately 1-2 millimeter in diameter after overnight incubation on tryptic soy agar. Colonies are nonhemolytic on blood agar. It is a catalase-positive, coagulase-negative, facultative anaerobe that can grow by aerobic respiration or by fermentation. Some strains may not ferment.
